Alex

Alex

Alex

Alex has been involved in an after-school program since the third grade; first at Cabrini Green Tutoring Program, then graduating and joining us here. Alex has been working with Rupa for the past couple of years here at Cabrini Connections.

Alex grew up in Chicago; Humboldt Park and Logan Square are just a couple of neighborhoods she has lived in here. Even though she is only a sophomore at Noble Street College Prep, where geometry is her favorite subject, she is already considering a Midwest college for her post-high school career. DePauw University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and University of Illinois-Champaign/Urbana are just a few of the schools she is looking into. Alex is considering studies in the arts: possibly music or theater.

Alex enjoys drawing and singing in her free time, and we have Alex to thank for three new students just in this school year alone!

Javon is already considering either Kansas or Duke Universities to study business after he graduates. His favorite subject as a freshman at Lincoln Park is algebra. In his free time, Javon is a big fan of sports, especially tennis and basketball.

Justin worked with Christina at the Cabrini Green Tutoring Program. Upon graduating from the CGTP, Christina encouraged Justin to join Cabrini Connections. She continued to volunteer there, while Justin moved on. Three years later, Justin and Christina are back working together!

Justin is currently a freshman at UIC College Prep and is still unsure of where he would like to attend college. He currently enjoys participating in JROTC at school and rock climbing and working out, outside of school.

Michael

Michael is 16 years old and a junior at Rauner College Prep. He has lived in Chicago his entire life. Michael came to Cabrini Connections after attending Cabrini Green Tutoring Program through sixth grade. After going into high school, he decided it would be in his best interest to continue a tutoring program to be successful in his high school career.

Michael has been attending Cabrini Connections for three years and is currently working with Jason Tennebaum. Currently, Michael hasn’t decided which college he would like to attend, but he would like to study business management, ____, or humanities.

Michael enjoys sports, social interaction, and playing music. (He plays alto saxophone at school!)

Patrick came to Cabrini Connections through his sister and has now been with us for five years. He is working with first year tutor, Zack, this year. Patrick is 16 years old and a junior at Lincoln Park High School.

Patrick’s favorite subject in school is history; however, he is interested in studying either film or music in college. Right now, his ideal college choices are UCLA and UIC. His hobbies outside of school include making music, drawing “doodles,” and writing.

Rocio has grown up here in Chicago and likes to read and watch TV in her spare time. Eventually, she would like to attend either Le Cordon Bleu Institute to study culinary arts or St. Mary’s.

Rocio is in her first year here at Cabrini Connections and will be working with veteran volunteer Jennifer O’Rourke.

Rocio’s best friend is Alex Barcenas, a fourth year student, who recruited Rocio to join the program.

Starishastarisha

Starisha was a student in the Cabrini Green Tutoring Program when she was in 5th grade. After she graduated from that program at the end of 6th grade, she decided to join Cabrini Connections, currently in her third year with our program.

Star is in ninth grade at Noble Street College Prep and is currently working with Anne Davies-McKnight. She has been in Chicago all her life and loves it here in her home. Starisha enjoys writing, dancing, and “just being me!”

Starisha’s favorite subjext in school is writing because she can really let things out that she can’t with anyone else. Eventually, Star would like to attend either Western Illinois University or a school in Jackson, Mississippi, to study social work.
