Anand Desai is Senior Fellow with the Academic and Government Consulting group at Clarivate and Professor of Public Policy Emeritus at the John Glenn College of Public Affairs of the Ohio State University. His responsibilities include developing and delivering a strategic approach to policy and assessment for the scientific research, development, and innovation enterprise.
Anand Desai came to Clarivate from the US National Science Foundation (NSF) where he was the Chief Evaluation Officer. As the inaugural head of the Evaluation and Assessment Capability section, his responsibilities included assessing how NSF’s investments expand the science and engineering knowledgebase, enhance the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics workforce, and support the science and engineering research infrastructure.
Dr Desai was on loan to NSF from his professorship at the John Glenn College where he taught statistics, mathematical modeling, evaluation, and simulation for public policy analysis. His research focused on use-inspired theory and applications of evaluative inquiry, performance measurement, data visualization, and spatial analyses. After studying mathematics and mathematical statistics at universities in India and the United Kingdom, he obtained a master’s degree in operations research and a doctorate in public policy analysis from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
